Giant Loop Gear: Practice Layering With The New Giant Loop Tech-Tee Long Sleeve Shirt As Functional Base Layer

By | Giant Loop Gear | No Comments

We pulled a page from the outdoor sports play book when we chose the new long-sleeve Giant Loop Tech-Tee shirt. The layering system is well know among the gravity and human powered riders. With base layer against the body giving vapor movement, insulation for trapping warmth in the second layer and, for the final layer, a vented or breathable outer shell to manage the environmental conditions. Our new Tech-Tee offers the functional benefits of a base layer, such as reduced chafing from gear, wicking action and quick drying, that a motorcycle rider would appreciate.

While traveling in Norway last month, Harold wore his new Giant Loop Tech-Tee under his gear for his base layer. He also brought one for his moto-host, Elving Solli, to try. Elving was surprised the GL Tech-Tee worked so well under his riding gear and commented that he hadn’t tried a technical base layer while motorcycling, only long-johns. He loved how smooth the material was and enjoyed its quick drying nature.

Giant Loop Rider: Tolga’s “Ride Must Go On”, All ‘Round the World

By | Giant Loop Gear, KTM, Photos, Riders | No Comments

Ride Must Go On

Hello , my name is Tolga Basol and I’m from Istanbul, Turkey. I’ve been working for the media industry in Istanbul about 14 years. I bought my first motorcycle about 12 years ago. Since then I’ve tried to travel with my bike to different parts of the world on my short holidays from work. I started to carry my video equipment on my travels & figured out how to shoot while traveling on a motorcycle. Finally i decided to quit my job to fulfill probably the biggest dream in my life; riding around the world on a motorcycle.

My journey will start from Istanbul on 1st of June 2014 on a KTM 1190 Adv R. I plan to ride through Russia, Mongolia, Siberia & then I will decide to continue to Southeast Asia or to ship my bike to North America. I will try to catch up Dakar 2015 in South America. Then I will decide the route for Africa. I suspect the route might change quite a lot but I will try to travel as long as I can & I did not set an end date for the trip.

The idea behind my trip is simply ‘’Ride Must Go On’’
KTM Turkey provided me with a brand new KTM 1190 Adv R. I bought the lightest & most compact equipment, kept my clothes to minimalistic & Giant Loop provided all the luggage I need for my journey. And now simply the Ride Must Go On.

Follow my page to track my journey real-time on the map & to check my photos & videos that i will try to share along the way.

Thanks for the great post, Tolga!
He rides with Giant Loop Siskiyou Panniers, Fandango Tank Bag Pro, Pannier Pockets, Tillamook Dry Bag, Rogue Dry Bag and Pronghorn Straps.

Giant Loop Ride: Summer Lake Hot Springs Building New Cabins

By | Events | No Comments

Harold stopped by the Summer Lake Hot Springs on his return trip from the Overland Expo. He wanted to catch up with the folks there and cover some details for our upcoming ride. He saw that the crew was hard at work building cabins, which will be ready in time for our event.  If you are signed up for the Giant Loop ride and don’t want to tent camp on the ground at the hot springs, call the resort and make yourself a reservation for one of the new cabins! 541-943-3931

Giant Loop Racer: Brett Finishes Namaqua African Rally On Top!

By | KTM, Racer | No Comments

Giant Loop Racer, Brett Cummings, just campaigned another race on his Strocam Mining KTM 450RR. This time he entered the Namaqua African Rally, and finished on top of the box!

Shown here prepping his bike for the Prologue.

He swapped lead with fellow racer Kenny Gilbert, in the final stage, but Kenny had to nurse a bad wheel and settled for second place overall. Way to go Brett!

Like many a Rally, the service work is done while the bike is sitting in the dirt, exposed to the elements. Lucky for Brett, there was grass in the Bivouac!!

I will miss the handle on my ever-present German beer steins, cause they will stay home from now on. Over the years I’ve broke enough of them in camp to know better, but I just can’t leave home without one…

Giant Loop News: All Set Up For The Desert 100 Offroad Race

By | Events, News, Racer | No Comments

Dustin and Harold are on site in Odessa, WA, for this weekend’s Desert 100 offroad race. They are in good company with GL racer Alex Sherman, our friends Tracy Jeffries of Ride West BMW/Touratech, Chet, of PSSOR, Alex Martens, of Konflict Suspension and Darrell VanNieuwenhuise, of Cyclops Adventure Sports.

There will be plenty of mayhem on the race course, but don’t think that camp is gonna be tame, either. There will be thousands of racers there to motorcycle, but with around 6,000 people total on site, the after dark bench racing is where other “championships” get decided.

Above pic of the encampment found with Google Images, couldn’t find a name to credit.

Giant Loop Racer: South African Dakar Rally Podium Finisher Brett Cummings on “Why I Use Giant Loop”

By | News, Racer, Riders | No Comments

Giant Loop Racer, Brett Cummings, shared his race resume with us (see below) — and included his reasoning for working with Giant Loop.

“Why I will use Giant Loop: When training alone and with no backup, one really needs to make sure that you have all your tools, medical equipment as well as nutrition and snacks with you so you can be fully self-sufficient. With Giant Loop gear, this is made easy!
Regards, Brett”

Australia’s Simpson Desert is enormous and Dave Darcy is no stranger to the riding there. He rode his 640 Adventure across the Simpson a few years ago, but now its time to do it on his modern LC4. Dave is experienced with planning and completing long rides, we supported his Continental Drift ride, with amazing results. Trailzone Magazine caught up with Dave and asked about some of his setup details for long distance. Check out what he did to prepare the bike.

Giant Loop gallery of photos from the EICMA show in Milan, Italy

By | Blog, Photos | No Comments

Harold and I worked our asterisks off at the International Motorcycle Exposition in Milan, Italy, presenting the 2014 line of Giant Loop. While we had a couple of the show’s best custom Adventure and Adventure Lite bikes in our booth, built by our Italian distributor Boano Racing, that didn’t stop us from taking a minute or two to walk around and snap pics of the other cool bikes  on display. My personal favorite category is the Rally bikes, followed closely by some supremely stylized customs, commonly known as brats or scramblers.  Here are a couple of pics of the choice rally machines and a brat bike or two. Check out our gallery to see the rest of the motorcycle and city pics we shot, on our last day in Milan.
