Giant Loop Racers: 24hrs of Starvation Ridge Part 1 Team Heavyweights

By | Blog, KTM, Photos, Riders | No Comments

Last weekend, several teams participated in the West’s largest 24hr Dirt bike race. One of the teams, Team Heavy Weights ran a stack of KTM Adventures and an XR650L in the Sportsman class and finished in style! They managed a podium, second place in their class, and finished 36th overall. There were many detractors that said it shouldn’t be done, but Team HeavyWeights not only did the deed but, threw down the gauntlet and grabbed some brass!  The team was organized by Darryl of CyclopsAdventuresports.com and Alex of Konflict Suspension systems to collect food donations for a community food drive. Their preparations and story are posted on ADVrider.com and Facebook, click to read the whole story and see the pics of what they accomplished. Great job, Guys!

Giant Loop Review: Rubber Boa Straps in Cycle News

By | Reviews | No Comments

Thanks Cycle News for including Giant Loop’s Rubber Boa Straps in the Oct. 22 issue’s “Stuff” section!

Giant Loop Rubber Boa Straps in Cycle News magazine

“Giant Loop’s Rubber Boa Straps apply dynamic tension with a stretch elastic shock cord and a simple locking slot, creating a dead-solid connection between plastic fenders and relatively small and lightweight gear, even in demanding off-road terrain. Adventure motorcyclists can confidently put the squeeze on a spare inner tube, tools, water or other essential gear. Available in a package of two, they are made in the USA from military-spec 1/4-inch shock cord with heavy-duty injection molded fender hooks and fit most standard dirt bike plastics.” — Cycle World magazine, “Stuff,” October 22, 2013

Giant Loop Rider: Cycle Wipes’ Dave Swezey Rips Idaho Single Track

By | Dealers, Fitment, Honda, Riders | No Comments

We’ve met a lot of great people in the motorcycle business, and Dave Swezey (owner/founder of Cycle Wipes, general manager at Ride West BMW) represents everything we love about our industry. Enthusiasm and good vibes gush forth from Dave like a mountain spring. Every time he talks about riding you can see the gleam in his eye of someone who simply loves what he does – and gives it his all, every day. Thanks Mr. Swezey for the kind words and great pic. It’s such a privilege to count you as a friend and GL rider! And every rider should have a pack of Cycle Wipes in their kit – they’ll clean everything from indicator lights to visors and glasses.

Can’t believe how useful, easy and reassuring it was to have my Giant Loop Zigzag Handlebar Bag and MoJavi Saddlebags strapped on as we played around (aka…uh… how do we get outa here and over there) in Idaho on amazing single track. I tend to ‘field test’ my products durability and darn these bags are tough! Get some, ride hard and rest easy knowing that all your essentials are handy and secure.

Giant Loop Rider: Photographer David Schelske Sends Thank You from Washington Backcountry Discovery Route

By | Husaberg, Husqvarna, Riders | No Comments

David Schelske PhotographyTruly moved by this one – it really requires no commentary:

Hey Guys

4 years ago you guys at Giant Loop auctioned off a bag and donated the money to me after I was injured filming at the races.

On the 4 year anniversary of that accident, a few friends and I took off on a 6 day ride on the WABDR after we ordered some of your gear for the trip.

On the last night of the trip I did a little camp scene setup and took some nice pics for you as a way to say thanks.

Thanks again for stepping up and helping me and my family out while I was out injured.

You guys make a great product, and it worked flawless on this epic adventure.

Here’s a video from the same trip:

Giant Loop Rider: Chilly White Tours Northern Baja – With No Dust!

By | Blog, KTM, Riders | No Comments

Chilly view

Chilly White, who just finished third in the Baja Rally, rode south of the border, for six days last month, and got to enjoy some natural dust abatement. He was riding with a couple fellas, and they kept to the technical riding. They were able to ride 1100 miles on the trip and covered some areas new to Chilly and rode a bunch of classic Baja terrain. CLICK HERE to see Chilly’s Enduro360.com post with more pics of wet weather — and to read more about his adventures.

Giant Loop Rider: Ged Overcomes SRD (Serious Ride Deficiency) on Grand Canyon Adventure

By | Blog, Riders | No Comments

Ged was itching to cure some SRD and decided that a trip to the Grand Canyon had just the right mix of dirt riding and fresh air, combined with some camping and good company, to do the job. He heard of a ride being coordinated by fellow ADVrider.com inmate, Bobz, and after reading the details posted by Bobz, he had to join the group:

“…”Some sand, some single track, some double track and we will be winding our way doing a loop around the Grand Canyon starting from Las Vegas and ending up there a week later. There will be crashes and everybody needs to be totally self-reliant ….carry everything you think you need….tools, tubes, water, camping gear and something to sip on around the fire at night….and bring a chair.” were his[Bobz] warnings….”

Sounds like it was a proper Giant Loop ride, Ged! Glad you guys had so much fun!!

Giant Loop Rider: 10,000 KM in Australia’s Outback on KTM 950 Adventure with Siskiyou Panniers, Diablo Tank Bag

By | Fitment, KTM, Riders, Uncategorized | No Comments

KTM 950 Adventure with Siskiyou PanniersClose call with an emu, field repairs and bags “tough as guts” – great email from Giant Loop rider Jack of Perth, Western Australia! Thanks for fantastic pics and story.

Diablo Tank Bag on KTM 950 AdventureHey fellas,

Giant Loop Siskiyou Panniers in AustraliaJust got back from a 10,000km solo trip from Western Australia thru the Great Victoria Desert to Uluru (Ayres Rock), down the Oodnadatta & Strezleki Tracks to Tibooburra, then to Albury & up to the New South Wales Snowy mountains, Victorian high country & back to WA, about 10000Km, all on my KTM950 Adventure, equipped with your Siskiyou Panniers & Diablo Tank Bag.

Giant Loop in Australia's OutbackI gotta say, I gave the panniers a floggin’ & they’re still hangin’ in there, cos very early in the trip, I lost the 2 heat shields & the muffler burnt a hole in the right bag & the dry bag as well, but whilst in Kalgoorlie, I managed to patch em up with some hundred mile an hour tape & with some rough bush craft, new hose clamps & some aluminium angle, I fashioned a new heat shield, I was back on the trail in no time flat. Just wished I’d paid as much attention to securing the original heat shields as did doing the patch up job !!!!  Lesson learnt : Lock wire your hose clamps so they can’t come loose.

KTM 950 Adventure with Siskiyou PanniersSo, all was going very well till about 50Km west of Tibooburra, NSW, I had a very close call with an Emu ( like an Ostrich), fortunately not knocking me off, but as I glanced it, the left pannier took the full brunt breaking the plastic D ring, but amazingly not the webbing off the lower front side strap that goes onto the footpeg mount assembly. All at about 120Kmh, I didn’t have time to shit myself it happened that quick.

Giant Loop saddlebags in AustraliaAnyway,  all in all the bags worked great for me & were easily big enough to carry all I needed & did everything I asked of them & more, right from the desert to the snowy mountains & back. Great product fellas, they’re as tough as guts.

By | BMW, Fitment, Riders | No Comments

Thanks GL rider Timothy for the great comments and pics. Glad you enjoyed the journey – and stayed dry during the crazy Colorado weather. Ride while you can!

BMW R1200GS“Just got back from 2,500 mile ride and all my Giant loop gear performed very well. Mostly good weather except two days in western Colorado (heavy thunderstorms).”

BMW R1200GS“All my personal effects were dry as a bone as long as I kept it inside GL bags.”
